Reader,
Its almost old news a day after the announcement. If you have not heard, DCP is brining the The Happy Toys White/Western Star (aka Green Goblin), from the movie Maximum Overdrive to life.
If you want one, DCP and dealers all over the web are taking preorders now. If you want to guarantee you get one, find a dealer soon and get your order in.
This begs the question, how does new tooling get to market. As I understand it happens two basic ways. The first is DCP gins up the money to pay China to make the tools that in turn make the models.
The other way this can happen is a person like you or I say "I want that thing and will pay to have it brought to market". DCP as I have learned has a minimum order of 5,000 pieces (that number likely comes from China) to justify the expenses of making the molds etc.
There are, of course, partnerships that happen between DCP and interested parties that also bring new models to market.
There is more to go into the process such as licensing etc but that is enough to get you going if you want something specific brought to market.
Library news: The hunt for producer info is still on and has been very fruitful. Thank you Northwest Diecast for forwarding on old dealer notices. These are emails sent to dealers saying "I made this, here is the dealer info". That has all the data I could ask for is very helpful.
Happy Collecting,
Eric

Reader There have been a lot of new subscribers joining the library. Welcome! A couple of things to know. One, if you see a record with missing data, I am always on the hunt to fill in the blanks. The "suggest an edit" field is your opportunity to make the library even better by helping me fill in the blanks. This is especially important on older sets that are getting harder to find good data on. Two, curate your own collection in the "my models" and "my wishlist" sections. Choose the $8 per...
Reader Been a little while since we spoke and WOW, the diecast hits keep coming. This month alone there have been various owner-operator and company sets released all with Wilson grain trailers. 5,544 to be exact. If you need a grain trailer you won't have trouble finding one. I've mentioned before these sets seem to come in waves. 2023 has been dominated by Peterbilts with double or single-round headlights and buckets of lowboy trailers. I will bet good money you will see 379 Petes with...
